❈ Project C.L.O.T.H.: Collaboration, Learning, Opportunity, Training, Health

We’ve begun the process for enacting a new preliminary initiative to implement cloth menstrual pads at several of our locations. Many international agencies are advocating the safe use of effective washable pads with anti-microbial moisture barriers that, unlike disposables, can be used multiple times. Their advantages include being environmentally friendly, cost-cutting on a long-term basis, as well as having potential health benefits—for instance, cloth menstrual pads are less likely to cause rashes and contact dermatitis, as well as helping women afflicted with certain types of vaginitis.

In addition, this provides us with the added opportunity of providing women in third-world countries with cottage industry opportunities to make cloth sanitary napkins. Vocational training for formerly-trafficked women are essential for allowing these girls to provide for themselves (often for the first time in their lives), lift them out of poverty, and ensure that they’re never enslaved again.
